Soon passengers of the London Underground might be able to access the internet on their mobile broadband enabled devices. Digital Britain report has made the proposal and the government seems to be considering it positively.

The report released recently, has put forward recommendations which are intended to make the UK a leader in the digital economy by making various improvements including looking into the availability of internet to people while travelling.

Though the connectivity in London Underground tube trains has always been bad, the government never paid much attention to it. In fact, recently, it refused to provide support for an investment plan saying it does not have enough funds to do so because of the recession. However, the vision described in the report seems to have encouraged the government.

The idea becomes all the more important because London is going to host the Olympic Games in 2012 and the government plans to make internet available everywhere by the time they take place. The 2012 Olympics are expected to be the most digitalized Olympic Games so far, and the government needs to ensure that this promise is fulfilled.

For the London residents, this will mean that they can continue browsing the web while travelling without bothering about connectivity issues.
