A common misconception when it comes to job hunting is that all job search engines are one and the same. This couldn’t be further from the truth. There are absolutely good sites, and not-so-good sites. Before you start your job hunt, make sure you do the research and use the more reputable sources.The valid job search engines have more navigable websites. When narrowing down your search, you’re able to identify criteria that meet your needs and preferences. You can type in keywords or choose from menus for industry, job category, salary, etc. These websites will display relevant results that actually make sense for you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve researched some lesser-known websites, and an employment listing would pop up that had nothing to do with my area of focus. A good job site will also suggest related or similar jobs based on your preferences. It will be able to recognize the similarities between one employment listing and another, even if they have different keywords. Sometimes we neglect jobs, simply because there are so many. So it is very helpful to have suggestions.Another important feature a reputable job site will have is the ability to save documents to their database. That way, if you want to respond to an employment listing, you can easily retrieve your resume and cover letter and send it directly through the website. There’s no hassle, and you don’t have to sift through your own files to find what you want to submit. A good site will also allow you to save your search criteria. So next time you log on, you can just choose a former search rather than inputting all your criteria all over again.
