Orcon Launches First Locally-Developed Cloud Service in New Zealand
Orcon announced the launch of the first locally-developed cloud computing solution in New Zealand under its iServe brand. The company will offer the new service to small and medium scale businesses in the country.
iServe was acquired by Orcon earlier this year and offers specialty hosting solutions as well as web hosting, virtual server and dedicated linux hosting, cloud services and domain names.
The new product allows businesses to take advantage of the benefits of cloud computing while providing them with the flexibility of scalable computing in an on-demand setup. This makes the service more cost-effective than conventional hosting solutions.
Storage and servers can be established or remove instantly with clients being required to pay only for the time that they have used the service, explains Charlie Boyd, head of emerging business for Orcon. This, he adds, will save businesses a lot of time and money.
Cloud computing can improve data storage capacities and capabilities automatically without requiring the client to invest on changing his infrastructure, says Boyd. This will translate to greater savings on IT costs as well as lesser worries about server updates and other issues related to computing. Because the service is developed locally in New Zealand, support is readily available and Orcon can provide more competitive pricing compared to companies developing the service from other countries.
Orcon also announced that it is going to introduce a new line of self-service virtual servers that will operate much like a real server. Clients can provision said virtual server online, real time. Customers can also instantly sign up using their credit card through the internet so they can experience the benefits of using their own equipment at a cheaper cost.
