Electric times for tennis players even the ones stuck in the snow. Who do you see winning the tourney this year, perennial favorites; Federer, Nadal or perhaps Murray. Or maybe an upset from a player who is just playing better than the remainder right nowadays like Del Potro, Roddick or perhaps Djokovic?
On the Women’s Side it could be any one of a number of potential tennis players: Henin, William Sisters?, maybe Safina, Clijsters, Jankovic or everyone’s hopeful Ana Ivanovic. Day 1 results are already in and Maria Sharapova has already been bounced from the tourney by her fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko.
All we really know is that there will be some exciting tennis, some long-term memories and the internal want for ourselves to get out on the tennis courts and play some tennis.
Here’s some Day 1 Results:
Defending men’s champion and second-seeded Rafael Nadal found his rhythm after a slow start to the first set and beat Australia’s Peter Luczak 7-6 (0), 6-1, 6-4 on Monday in the first round of the Aussie Open.
U.S. Open champion Clijsters, also a former No. 1 and making a return to the Aussie Open in her sixth tournament back from retirement, easily won her first-round match 6-0, 6-4 over Canadian qualifier Valerie Tetreault.
Seventh-seeded Andy Roddick beat Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
Henin’s next match is against fifth-seeded Elena Dementieva, who downed Vera Dushevina 6-2, 6-1.
No. 24 Ivan Ljubicic had a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 win over 16-year-old wild card entry Jason Kubler, the youngest player in the draw.
